I live and work in the New Franconian Lake District. This lakescape was created in a region that has been arid — at least compared to southern Bavaria — for thousands of years. Abundance of water was mostly limited to devastating spring floods at the banks of the river Altmühl. Now there are four large lakes in the area, many meres and ponds, channels, culverts, sluices, dams, banks, islands. A completely new landscape was born.
A new landscape without roots, in a region whose history and culture date back over more than 2,000 years. A landscape without myths and fairy tales, without mythical creatures and figures of legend.
I walk the shores of the lake, along the streams and channels, and attempt to discover old magic in a new landscape. What I see, I express in art, using techniques that mirror that conflict: photography and digital art mixed with ink drawings and water colour paintings — old enchantments in new scenery.
Today I would like to introduce a fairy creature I have discovered on my rambles: Bäumline, or Treeling, a wood-elf who dances away into autumn at the shores of the Große Brombachsee, the Brombach Lake.
The painting is not yet completely finished, but I hope she may put a spell on you nevertheless!

I like that very much. I really appreciate traditional art (paint, ink, brushes and pens!), but I also like the idea of using the available technology.
I’m happy you like it.
I think many artists remain children somewhere inside – so we like to try out new toys! I enjoy the new digital opportunities very much. And it’s a lot of fun to experiment with how to blend traditional and new mediums. (Though it takes a lot of paper, printer- and other colour.)
I think it’s a great picture, and I still like the basic concept behind it very, very much.
